Joshua Halla, 26, of Wethersfield, was arrested Wednesday, March 5, around 8:30 p.m. after troopers stopped him on Route 15 in East Hartford, State Police said.
Multiple people called 911 after Halla's SUV got onto Route 15 driving south in the northbound lanes. A trooper raced to the scene, blocked his path, and forced the driver onto the shoulder before anyone was hurt.
When police got him out of the vehicle, Halla admitted to "intentionally driving the wrong direction," troopers said. However, he couldn't explain why.
He told officers he had smoked marijuana earlier that evening, a police report said.
Authorities charged him with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, reckless driving, driving the wrong way on a highway, reckless endangerment, and criminal attempt at assault, authorities said.
Halla was later released on a $50,000 bond, police said.
